Associate Ann Powell, brings the important expertise in training for and assessment of electronic systems for proposal submission and tracking as well as her extensive background in accounting for non-profits, higher education and small businesses.

As Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development University of New Mexico, she was responsible for reviewing and negotiating complex contracts, work with legal office, knowing regulations and current changes for various federal, state, industrial and non-profit entities. She acted as liaison for various compliance committees including Conflict of Interest, Animal Care and Use, Human Subjects, Institutional Biosafety, Graduate Student Insurance, and Collections. Her assignments also included working on policies affecting research and sponsored projects at the university.

Earlier she was the Director of the Office of Research Administration. That office assisted investigators with proposals preparation including budgets, analyzing proposal instructions, and preparing institutional data. The office also approved all proposals administratively on behalf of the University.

Ms. Powell’s accounting background includes the position of Senior Accountant, Health Sciences Controller’s Office where she handled a range of restricted accounts including Cancer Center, Continuing Medical, and public service accounts. Set up new accounts, approved expenditures, monitored activity, prepared financial reports, and closed out accounts.
